Mom's visit #2 - May 2008

In the midst of my job hunt drama, my mom decided to come and visit me for the second time. This was great because we were able to unwind a bit, and visit some cool places in and outside of Amsterdam. Obviously, we had to go to Keukenhof gardens.

The tulip season was just ending, but they had many other plants, so the gardens were colorful all season.

The greenhouses were also spectacular.

We also went to Enkhuizen, an outdoor museum where buildings from different parts of the country and different points in time are collected. At the entrance they had some silos.

They also had houses from various periods open for visiting. We walked into one where a lady in traditional clothing was preparing dinner, wholesome home style.

The Dutch and their windmills...

The town also had entire streets brought over from other parts of the country to be part of the exhibit.

And this is Enkhuizen the town, outside of the museum grounds. Looks the same actually.

This is a view of Amsterdam from the roof of Club 11, a club on the 11th floor. Since I'm about a year late in writing this blog, this building is now being torn down.

My mom is very cool, and celebrated her 50th birthday in style: sailing the canals of Amsterdam on a party boat full of 20-something year-olds. Next step: mom moves to Amsterdam. I'm still working on that one.

April 20, 2008 - 4.20

4.20 is a major holiday in Amsterdam. Enthusiasts from all over the world descend into a haze of smoke thicker than the usual smog. Even high profile celebrities like Snoop Dogg hang out at my local coffeeshop and shoot their music videos there. Elysia and I held a low key celebration by a canal.

These guys celebrated on a couch outside the city's historic stock market exchange. There's something for everyone.
