Ski Trip #3 - March 2009

Skiing in Europe is amazing, so this year the expats made a week long ski adventure to Les Trois Valees in the French Alps. We stayed in the town Les Menuires which was at 1850m altitude. The apartments in the touristy valley aren't impressive, but the mountains are incredible; you can't even see the peak from this spot.

It would take at least a couple lifts to get to the top...

We could see Mont Blanc in the distance.

The apartments were small but cozy, and we managed to cook dinner and eat all together a couple of nights. Left to right: Amelie (FR), Thijs (NL), Dani (SP), Tom (GB), Angeline (FR), Diego (IT) and missing from this pic is the photographer David (AUS).

We also had a few grocery stores in the area, where they sold snails and shells separately. Is this so you can put the snails back in the shell before serving? Seems highly counter-productive... But hey, it's French.

I lived with these three dudes... Tom, Andreas, David.

We also went out for dinner a few times, and one night we tried Raclette. It's kind of like Fondue... Here you can see the hunk of cheese between the heater, and when it melts you scrape it off onto meat or potatoes. It was very good, and heavy. One night I also had ostrich steak at a restaurant and it was delicious.

But best of all was the skiing, and these amazing mountains everywhere you looked!
