Zoutsteeg 26: September 2008 - September 2009

My street is called Zoutsteeg or "Salt Alley", probably because it's walking distance from Centraal Station (the old port of the city) and this would be where they salted all the fish. The house is from the 17th Century and has now become one of Amsterdam's many leaning houses; it shakes when the morning cleaning trucks roll around and you wonder when the place will collapse. We were in the attic, so we had a cool view of roof tops, and in the background the Westerkerk (the church that's next to Anne Frank's house).

Because we were in the attic we had roof support beams running through our living room...

Which were perfect for a hammock. Hanging out in a hammock in your own living room is awesome. In the background you can see the kitchen on the left, and my room above it. It was a shelf, but my shelf.

Zoutsteeg by night.
